‘Marigolds’ colourful flowers were thought to lift the spirits and encourage cheerfulness

TRADITIONAL & CURRENT USES

Marigold is a highly regarded and versatile herb in Western herbal medicine. Its vibrant orange petals are renowned for their exceptional ability to soothe inflamed and irritated skin. With potent antiseptic and healing properties, marigold helps prevent infections and accelerates the skin’s repair process. Additionally, marigold serves as a cleansing and detoxifying herb, with infusions and tinctures commonly used to address chronic infections.

Above all, Marigold is a remedy for the skin, providing effective treatment for most minor skin problems. It is used for cuts, grazes and wounds; for red and inflamed skin, including minor burns and sunburn; for acne, excema, rashes and for fungal conditions such as ringworm, athlete’s foot and thrush.

Marigold is antiseptic. Some constituents are antifungal (particularly the resins), antibacterial and antiviral. The herb also astringes the capillaries, an action that explains its effectiveness for cuts, wounds, varicose veins and various inflammatory conditions.
